A sweet, naïve carving of a seated woman. The style is similar to 20th century carvings made in Southeast Asia for sale to tourists and sailors, but the proportions are so funky that we have to wonder… Our best guess (based in part on the hairstyle) is that it is an early piece from that region, perhaps World War II vintage. Note that the young lady is missing her left toes... but she doesn't seem to mind!
