Exquisitely-crafted, wooden lidded bucket, Qing Dynasty. We have seen these described as "rice buckets," but they don't seem particularly utilitarian (no handles!). You have to wonder if they were made for holding something more personal than rice. The bottom of this bucket has the characters for "Nanyang" (likely the historic city in southwestern Henan province), and "Lu Shou," possibly a name). The bottom of the lid has characters for "flowing," "reeds," and "summer" — possibly part of a short poem. Would make a lovely ice bucket with a liner added, but it stands alone as an elegant object in its own right.
