Rattan Burden Basket
Tall, plaited rattan-and-bamboo basket, with a subtle diamond-shaped motif and a rich patina of age. Sometimes called a “rice basket,” it is really a general -purpose burden basket for gathering, harvesting, marketing, etc. Variations of this form have traditionally been used throughout Southeast Asia and the Philippines. There are loops for woven shoulder straps (or a tump-line), now absent. Stands solidly on a wooden base.
