Rusty Things
Why are rusty things so fascinating? Say what you will about wabi-sabi, “character,” or patina. We think it’s really about vulnerability. Cold, cold iron has made humans the masters of the planet. Trains, trucks, and ships; swords, guns, and bombs — without our iron machines, without our steel weapons, we are just weak, naked apes. Rust reminds us that our magical metal armor is mortal, too. Molecule by molecule, rust is busy dismantling the terrible architecture of our dominance. Rust never sleeps. We find this very satisfying, but we understand that not everyone feels this way (For those people, there is WD-40).
For your consideration, we offer several oblong gears from some sort of farming implement. Not sure what their original use was, but now they are available to be purchased individually or in multiples (three is a nice number), to be arranged in any way you wish. We might suggest putting some tapers in them, and using them as a centerpiece for a lovely post-apocalyptic dinner party.
