A very small, inticately-woven Saltillo from Northern Mexico, only 20 inches long. These vintage Saltillos are similar to Pueblo pottery in my mind: both are sophisticated art forms that developed from more utilitarian objects (the serape, in this case). The weave is extremely fine— some of these these textiles have as many as 100 weft fibers per inch! The colors, though quite vibrant, are subtly modulated, showing the hand and eye of an artist at work.
