An unusual Sambalpuri Ikat wrap from Odisha (formerly Orissa) a province in eastern India along the Bay of Bengal. Woven from cotton (or possibly a cotton-raw silk blend), it features traditional vertical stripes and floral ikat patterns, as well as unusual sheer sections. The "single ikat" pattern is achieved by tightly tying the warp threads, then dipping the bundles into multiple dye baths, all before the actual weaving begins. This process is known locally as Banda Kala ("the art of tying"). Truly a statement piece!
