A large, classic weed pot, with a complex, abstract pattern of incised lines. Like so many mid-20th century potters, Jack Wemmer was a veteran of the Second World War (he was a navigator in the Air Force. In July 1943, his B-17 Flying Fortress (“Old Coffins”) was shot down on a bombing run over Germany. The crew crash-landed, and the survivors were taken as prisoners of war. A soldier’s story, like so many thousands of others! One hopes that the act of throwing pots helped Lieutenant Wemmer find some peace in civilian life.
